Welcome!

Our Story

The Southern Paiute Nuwu people have lived in our traditional homeland in Southwestern Utah since at least 1100 AD. According to our creation stories, we, the NuWu people were chosen to live in the most beautiful place at the center of the world in order to care of Mother Earth (Too’veep) and be stewards of our ancestorial lands, animals, and sacred sites.

We in the Shivwits Band of the Southern Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah continue to live in the shadow the sacred Shivwits Red Mountain (SeeVeets'Eng Angka' Kaiva) where our ancestors are buried and our children still play. Our culture is rooted in the land, the water, and the protection of future generations.

Our Community

The Red Mountain Land Preservers (RMLP) is a grassroots group of tribal descendants working alongside community members to protect our ancestral lands from Reef Capital Partners' destructive golf course development, preserve our water and natural habitat, and promote our sovereign legal and voting rights.

Please note: RMLP are enrolled Shivwits Band members. RMLP is not affiliated with, authorized by, or an agent of the Shivwits Band Council.

Our Mission & Vision

We Believe our sacred lands are not a blank canvas for a massive golf course—they are our legacy. We stand together in peace and honor our land and our legacy with a strength that cannot be shaken.

Our Mission is to continue to protect our people and our sacred land by:

  • Preventing Harmful Development
  • Preserving Natural Resources
  • Conserving Vital Water
  • Defending sovereign rights

We Believe in being true to our ancestors, our heritage, our indigenous land, and our Nuwu people.   We believe our sovereign legal and voting rights must be respected and enacted. We expect honesty and transparency from our leaders and from those with whom we do business.

Our Vision is to support a sustainable future which stewards our land and water resources and offers economic opportunities to honor our people and protect our heritage.

Our Goal is to unite our people and stand together to protect Red Mountain for today and for generations to come.
